A year of success
Recording employment status
More than seven million people of working age (16-64) in the UK are disabled or have a health condition, and only 3.5 million of these are in work. Employment can help physical and mental health and promote recovery and evidence of its benefits are widely documented.
This year the PRSB completed a project in collaboration with the Department for Work and Pensions and the Department of Health and Social Care’s (DHSC), Joint Work and Health Unit to explore if more regular collecting of information on employment status in care records might help and support patients and citizens. The report concluded that there would be benefits to encouraging meaningful conversations between healthcare professionals and patients about employment and outlined how a record standard could support this.
